Staff with
excellent skills appropriate for the task are better able to accomplish their goals. Each role in your requirements management process defines activities that are
used to accomplish tasks in the project plan. The person playing that role on the project must have the skills to perform those tasks. Requirements Quest courses
prepare your staff with skills that may be immediately applied on your projects. The instructor facilitates small groups with lively and stimulating explanations
followed immediately by practice on the concept. There is a specialized course for each role in the requirements management process. Producers of requirements
- those who gather, analyze, document and validate requirements, will acquire specific skills and techniques to completely manage requirements. Suppliers
of requirements - those who have the business knowledge of what the project needs to accomplish, will learn how to deliver requirements in a form that ensures
their needs will be met. Receivers of requirements - technical staff who design, build and test, will improve their ability to provide feedback
and obtain usable requirements. Requirements Quest has the following packaged courses and presentations available for immediate delivery.
The Quest for Excellent Requirements
The Quest for Excellent Requirements - Producer
This 3-day workshop for producers of requirements provides theory and specific techniques in requirements management. Instructor-led training, exercises and a final test assure effectiveness of the requirements management techniques taught. Immediately following instruction on a topic, small groups of three to four students work together on highly interactive exercises to apply what they have learned. At the end of each section, students are encouraged to record ideas and questions that may need further review. The student manual and exercise workbook provided are organized both for the course instruction and for reference to key points, checklists and templates for use on the job.
The Quest for Excellent Requirements - Overview
This 1-day workshop for suppliers and receivers of requirements provides an overview of the entire requirements management process. It provides training and exercises in the industry best-practice techniques with an emphasis of interviews and walk-throughs. The material is consistent with and ties directly into the 3-day workshop for producers of requirements. The goal is for each student to gain a high-level understanding of the process with emphasis on the benefits of the requirements management process and their role in supporting the process.
Use Cases That Get Used
Packed with hands-on exercises, this 1-day course provides the student with a solid foundation of the basic structure and techniques to write effective use cases with confidence. The course presents a holistic view of Use Case Modeling that consists of two main components: (1) Graphical view, represented by the Use Case Diagram, and (2) Textual view, represented by the Use Case Specification. The student learns how to apply a 3-step approach to Use Case Modeling. Within the documented, repeatable Requirements Management Process, the Requirements Producer (any individual who is responsible for eliciting, analyzing, representing, validating, and managing changes to the requirements) may utilize Use Case Modeling as another form of "Representing" requirements. "They [Use Cases] constitute only a fraction (perhaps a third) of all the requirements...," says Allistair Cockburn in his book Writing Effective Use Cases, Addison-Wesley, 2001. The student will gain knowledge regarding when and when not to apply Use Cases for representing requirements.
This course combines lecture, delivered by an expert practitioner, a playful and fun learning environment, small-group and individual practical exercises, and class discussions on real-life requirements problems and solutions.
Requirements Modeling Made Easy
Requirements Modeling Made Easy is a fast-paced, 1-day workshop that demystifies requirements modeling using a level-of-detail approach (business, user, and system level). Each model presented in the course provides the following components: definition, alternative names, example, why use it, how it helps, easy-to-follow steps to build it (literally a handful of steps--five or less), and a hands-on exercise to gain confidence in understanding and using it. The material is consistent with and advances the techniques presented in our popular 3-day, "The Quest for Excellent Requirements-Producer" workshop.
"[Requirements Quest] provided the industry knowledge and experience we needed to develop
and launch our improved requirements management process. Requirements Quest also supported the launch of our new process by training over 200 of our business analysts
in eliciting, documenting, and validating requirements."
- Mike Clipson, Requirements Management Process Owner, CUNA Mutual
"Whenever I have a new team member, whether for sales or software development, I call on Requirements Quest to give them the foundation for gathering, managing,
and executing those requirements. Requirements training is not taught in college, and the accuracy of my bids, and my client's satisfaction, is much higher
because of Requirements Quest's 'The Quest for Excellent Requirements'."
- B. Michael Gungor, President, BizConstruct Inc. (custom software development)
